Colored Girls for Colored Girls Call for Art
Ends on
Opening August 19, 2026, Colored Girls for Colored Girls—Evolution of Expression serves as ARTE NOIR's flagship visual arts contribution to the 50th anniversary commemoration of For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide / When the Rainbow Is Enuf. The exhibition brings together women artists whose works move between tenderness and rupture, memory and invention. Drawing from Shange's formal and emotional architecture, the exhibition uses the figures of lady in red, orange, yellow, green, blue, brown, and purple as a curatorial framework through which questions of identity, embodiment, environment, and remembrance come into view. Through painting, collage, light, gesture, and color, the exhibition considers Black womanhood as both lived experience and artistic method. ARTE NOIR invites visitors into a space shaped by resonance, reflection, and possibility—one that honors the imaginative and critical force of Black women artists.
